Jeden and Rotary – Building Sustainable Partnerships for a Greener, Healthier California

February 1, 2024

Jeden Bioscience and Rotary Club District 5239 share a commitment to protect the environment, to advocate and support sustainable lifestyles, and to form community partnerships to bring the message and methods to schools and groups.

Shared Commitment to Environmental Protection and Sustainable Lifestyles

Jeden’s business model aligns beautifully with Rotary’s Earthwise Education Program, a new District Grant designed to promote environmental sustainability through school programs focused on food waste reduction, composting, and teaching students about eco-friendly practices in nutrition and agriculture. The Earthwise Education Program also aims to forge community partnerships within Rotary, as well as nonprofits and local businesses to support education and fight disease.

The Urgency of Reducing Food Waste and Methane Emissions Mandated by SB 1383

Jeden’s president and founder, Michelle Zdybowicz, gave an eye-opening presentation to members of the Rotary Club of Ventura East, her home club, with many visiting Rotarians in attendance to outline the importance of diverting food waste from landfills, which is now a requirement of SB 1383. Jeden has been a champion for driving sustainable innovation within the agrifood sector and promoting environmentally conscious practices.

More than just a wish-list item, California now mandates to implement a 75% reduction of organic waste in landfills by 2025. Why? Because this particular waste produces methane, a potent greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change. Landfills are the third largest source of methane emissions in the US.

Give Waste New Life: The Transformative Power of the Reencle Composters

Michelle offered measurable solutions to tackle this by showcasing the benefits of the Reencle Composter. This composter transforms food scraps into nutrient-rich compost in just 24 hours. The composter reduces residential food waste by 90%, which eliminates the necessity of packaging scraps in plastic and storing them for weekly collection by waste management firms, who would otherwise transport them to faraway landfills. Businesses are also part of SB 1383 mandates. Jeden offers the MegaReencle Commercial Composters to help schools, food-generating businesses, and municipalities reach the required reduction goals.

A Vision for a Sustainable Future: Enhancing Education and Community Awareness

After her presentation, Michelle was awarded the prestigious Paul Harris Fellow recognition as a result of her long-term deep connection and commitment to Rotary International. The prospect of collaborating with District 5240 on Earthwise Education is so exciting. This initiative aims to promote environmental sustainability by reducing food waste, improving school cafeterias and gardens (with a current focus on 80+ schools), and introducing students to natural process enhanced by innovative technologies that will enhance community awareness.
